ZAMA Creative | The Street Sessions — Renée • Portraiture • Release 3
ZAMA Creative is an enterprise separate from Upbound Media Group LLC, my media solutions company, aggregating all of my personal publishing spaces, commercial or commentative. The Street Sessions is a ZAMA Creative photo series where I go on portraiture excursions with muses of recurring good company, always with a jovial, Upbound spirit. This entry is the third release of such sessions with Renée—a high school friend, educator, and creative.

How We Met
Renée and I go way back—the precipice of high school way back. We were classmates in the same after-school program, grammar competition rivals, and Harry Potter aficionados. Lovers of the arts, especially musicals. I recall an enthusiastic obsession with Zac Efron. For this, I neither judged nor misunderstood her. I got it. He’s a talented, handsome man. Have you seen him in The Greatest Showman? While I wasn’t a High School Musical fan, even I harmonized along with Link in the Hairspray movie adaptation. The man has a venerable filmography.

When college took us our separate ways, our tight-knit high school friend group stayed connected well beyond graduation. Renée even referred me for a position at an education company, leading to a time where we shared an employer. Throughout the years, we found ways to reconnect, and some of those occasions centered around tailored photoshoots.
Our first session took place in London’s Waterloo tunnel with her brother in 2013—a session deserving its own entry. Since that winter day, Renée and I have connected two more times, capturing more than three looks across these projects. I recall combing through Facebook for the perfect wardrobe options, using my best “law & order” investigative tactics. But here is a pair of images from our last session that was more about vibe than wardrobe.
These images are from our latest shoot, a day spent capturing scenes around the crevices of DUMBO, Brooklyn, and the Manhattan Bridge. Shout-out to Renée for saving my diffusion umbrella setup on countless occasions. May the future bring weighted base satchels!
