The Trek Realist • Star Trek-themed web publications
When I was young, I approached my mother with an unusual request: to let me permanently alter my red cobbler long-sleeve thermal shirt by cutting it into the shape of the Starfleet delta insignia. It was my first attempt at cosplay, though I didn’t know the term at the time. To me, the insignia symbolized service and heroism, ideals embodied by the crews of the Starship Enterprise, characters my father often praised. Little did I know that these ideals would later anchor me, inspiring resilience and shaping my outlook during both strife and triumph.
The Trek Realist is my space to celebrate Star Trek’s profound influence—not just on me, but on millions of fans. Launching soon, this project will be a radically honest and intersectional exploration of the franchise. While some fans idealize its original run and dismiss modern iterations, I aim to engage with the franchise as both a cultural phenomenon and a new storytelling endeavor. Whether I’m marveling at Starfleet’s ingenuity or dissecting divisive fan reactions, I invite you to join me on this voyage through the stars.
